Château Latour· Pauillac
About the domain.
Latour does not need my introduction. It is the most documented estate in Bordeaux, possibly in the world. What I can offer is context on how we allocate it.
The Pauillac de Latour was introduced in 1990 as a third-tier wine alongside the Grand Vin and Les Forts.
Since 2012, Latour no longer releases en primeur. Wines are held at the estate until Frédéric Engerer and his team judge them ready. Current releases of older vintages reach the market when the château considers them ready to drink.
Classical Pauillac.
A vintage of poise, cabernet sauvignon dominant with merlot and petit verdot in support. Tightly wound on release, built for decades.
Concentrated and lifted.
A warm, generous vintage at Latour. Dense fruit, ripe tannin, sustained acidity. Among the most complete wines of the decade from the estate.
Cool, structured.
A cooler year that produced a precise, mid-weight Grand Vin. Cabernet sauvignon led; the wine is more about line than volume.
